How to Take a White Background Product Photo at Home

Free toolWhite Background Product Photo MakerAmazon and Flipkart both want the main product image on white, and Amazon asks for pure white, RGB 255, 255, 255. You don't need a studio for that. A phone, a window and a sheet of white paper get you a clean photo, and a background tool makes the white exact.
What you need
- A phone camera (any recent phone is enough).
- A large sheet of white chart paper, foam board or a white bedsheet.
- A window with soft daylight, or two lamps with the same type of bulb.
- A piece of white card or foam board to bounce light (optional).
Step by step
- Make a sweep. Tape the white sheet to the wall and let it curve down onto the table, with no fold, so there's no line behind the product.
- Use soft, even light. Put the table next to a window, out of direct sun. Hold white card on the opposite side to lighten the shadows. With lamps, place one at each side at about 45°.
- Place the product a little in front of the curve, not against the wall, so its shadow falls on the table, not behind it.
- Shoot at product height. Hold the phone level with the product and fill most of the frame, leaving a little space around the edges.
- Lock focus and exposure by tapping and holding on the product, then raise the exposure slightly until the background looks bright white without the product washing out.
- Take several shots from the front, back, sides and close up, all with the same set-up.
Make the background pure white
Even a good home photo has a background that is light grey, not pure white. Run it through a background tool to replace the backdrop with exact #FFFFFF while keeping the product's own pixels:
- White background product photo maker: pure white behind the product; with a marketplace main-image template the shadow is turned off so the white stays exact.
- Amazon image requirements checker: confirm the background, size and fill before you upload.
Common mistakes
- Yellow or blue tint from mixing daylight and warm bulbs: use one kind of light.
- Hard shadows from direct sun or a single bare bulb: soften the light or bounce it.
- The product too small in the frame: marketplaces expect it to fill most of the image (Amazon asks for 85%).
- Stretching the photo to make it square: fit it into the square instead, with the resize to 1:1 tool.
